We recently worked with students from Dylan Thomas Community School to design and paint a striking mural in the heart of Swansea City Centre, using art to promote an important message: stopping sexism. This mural was created as part of the Flip the Streets Project.
The students took part in a full-day workshop, learning spray paint techniques while working on the mural. The design was simple but impactful. It showed the word “STOP,” with a stop sign forming the “O” to symbolise the need to halt sexism and gender inequality. This visual metaphor encouraged students and the wider community to reflect on the issue of sexism in society.
The mural was part of Flip The Streets project, a socially driven project that works with young people to create public art around important issues like equality, inclusion, and safety.
Flip The Streets engages with local communities through creative projects. These projects spark discussion and empower individuals to take a stand.
By participating in this initiative, the students were not only learning artistic skills but also contributing to a larger conversation about sexism in a visible and impactful way. The city centre location put this message in front of many people. It became a powerful statement in a busy public space.
Through partnerships like this, Fresh Creative Co continues to demonstrate the importance of using art to make a difference. This mural is a reminder that young people can create lasting change in their communities.
