Flip the Streets – Clase Primary

Posted: 16th August 2024

We are absolutely delighted to have had the opportunity to collaborate with Clase Primary School on a truly meaningful project.

As part of the FlipTheStreets initiative, we organised a special taster session workshop where the pupils took centre stage in designing and painting a large mural at their school. This exciting project allowed the students to actively participate in the creation of artwork that embodies important values.

The mural was crafted with a strong focus on anti-racism and inclusion. What made this mural particularly special was that the designs were drawn from the pupils themselves. Each student contributed their ideas and creative vision, which were then brought to life in the final artwork. This collaborative effort not only provided the students with a valuable hands-on experience in mural painting but also allowed them to express their commitment to creating a more inclusive and welcoming Swansea community.

The design of the mural is inspired by the Welsh word “Cynefin”, which translates to ‘habitat,’ ‘haunt,’ ‘acquainted,’ or ‘familiar.’ This concept reflects the mural’s portrayal of two hands forming a heart, symbolising unity and affection. The background features a bright and sunny landscape with children playing football, capturing the joy and vibrancy of a community where everyone feels at home and included.

The workshop was an inspiring experience for everyone involved, as it showcased the students’ artistic talents and their passion for promoting positive change. The mural now stands as a vibrant testament to their hard work and dedication, serving as a powerful reminder of the values of unity and respect within the school community.
